Apple's iPad could be perfect for Canadian small business owners

The world is abuzz with news of the iPad, the tablet computer released yesterday by Apple. Though consumers and businesses alike are salivating over the "magical and revolutionary device," small businesses may see the most benefits.

IT news website eWeek.com reported that, starting at $499, the iPad may be one of the best small business tools, especially for companies with mobile employees.

This is because it does not require a lot of technical expertise to manage, and its Wi-Fi and 3G options make it similar to the netbook - which has grown in popularity recently with SMEs - in wireless capabilities and price, while offering more functionality.

It is also an attractive option for the increasing number of small businesses that have switched to cloud computing-based applications.

"This is a full-screen browser, which means software as a service [SaaS] or any web-based app your business has instantly becomes the killer app for small businesses on this," eWeek reported. "It's suddenly the easiest, lightest, cheapest option."

The iPad has been met with much fanfare from tech and non-tech communities alike, despite some jabs about the implications of the name. Analysts expect it to see significant commercial success, though some say it may have to reach a lower price point before hitting its peak.
